Unique Japanese psychedelic rock band TEKE:TEKE have returned with a phenomenal new single in ‘Garakuta’. They bring together marching rhythms permeated by harmonious flute and guitar melodies with sudden switches toward heavier, distortion-laden material. Kuroki’s voice is powerful above the unique musical landscape, with psychedelic breakdowns providing respite from the intense genre-switching. “I imagined a world where everything we throw out came back to protest,” the band say. “And I’m not necessarily only thinking from an environmental perspective, it is rather an analogy for anything or anybody that is cast out of society because they are considered useless by the norm.” The Montreal-based seven-piece are gearing up to release their new album Hagata on June 9th, 2023. -Dan Peeke
